چکیده

The #ow structures generated by a pressure-controlled self-oscillating valve are investigated both experimentally and numerically. Schlieren #ow visualization experiments show that a stable vortex is developed downstream of the valve during the closing phase of the valve. During the opening phase of the valve, this vortex moves downstream and dissipates. An experimental study of the vortex interaction with a wedge and cylinder with di!erent diameters shows that the vortex is a product of the large amplitude of the valve oscillation and does not signi"cantly a!ect the valve behaviour. Finally, numerical modelling of the #ow structures also supports the idea that the vortex development is an aerodynamic phenomenon accompanying a large amplitude of oscillation of pressure-controlled self-oscillating valves. Aerodynamic excitation and sound production of blown-closed free reeds without acoustic coupling: the example of the accordion reed.

The accordion reed is an example of a blown-closed free reed. Unlike most oscillating valves in wind musical instruments, self-sustained oscillations occur without acoustic coupling. Flow visualizations and measurements in water show that the flow can be supposed incompressible and potential. A model is developed and the solution is calculated in the time domain. The excitation force is found t...

Oscillating reed valves--an experimental study

The results of experiments on the threshold behavior and large-amplitude oscillation of "outward-swinging door" vibrating flap valves in an air environment are reported and compared with the predictions of a simple nonlinear theory that parametrizes aerodynamic effects by means of a simple damping coefficient together with a contraction coefficient for the flow. The agreement is acceptably good...

Self-Excitation Mechanism of Reed Valve in Refrigerant Compressors

This study presents a basic idea for the self·excitation mechanism of reed valves in refrigerant compressors used for air conditioners or refrigera· tors. The detailed experimental data on the phase lag of fluid pressure, which were obtained from a forced vibration test on a simple axisymmetrical model, namely a resonator, composed of the valve, the valve plate, the cylinder and the piston, wer...

Numerical simulations of fluid-structure interactions in single-reed mouthpieces.

Most single-reed woodwind instrument models rely on a quasistationary approximation to describe the relationship between the volume flow and the pressure difference across the reed channel. Semiempirical models based on the quasistationary approximation are very useful in explaining the fundamental characteristics of this family of instruments such as self-sustained oscillations and threshold o...

Investigation of Slug Suppression System in Deepwater Scenario

In pipeline-riser systems, pressure fluctuations which result from the formation of large liquid slugs and gas surges due to operational changes or low mass flow rate from production wells and the profile of pipeline-riser systems often lead to trips at the inlet of the separator; and thereby, the problem causes a a loss of the production. In this study, on a sample deep-water oil field off the ...
